While the City of Newark experienced an overall 13% crime reduction from 2015 to 2016, some parts of Newark experienced even larger reductions. The Fairmount neighborhood for example, experienced reductions in crime much larger than the rest of the city experienced.

Percent Change in Crime from 2015 to 2016

The chart below shows the percent change in the proportion of crime experienced by the Fairmount neighborhood. While crime has decreased overall in the city and in the Fairmount neighborhood, we wanted to see if proportionally, the Fairmount neighborhood was experiencing less crime. For example, 10% of the aggravated assaults occurred in the Fairmount neighborhood in 2015 while in 2016, 8.7% of the aggravated assaults occurred in the Fairmount neighborhood, a 1.3% decrease. From these numbers, one could make the argument that something more than the overall crime decrease is driving the numbers down in the Fairmount neighborhood.
